The second annual Ruth Allen Memorial Run and Fun Walk will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011 in Deansboro, NY. The Run and Walk is named in memory of Ruth Allen, who for many years spearheaded the run and fun walk, which began in 1995 in conjunction with the Marshall Days in Deansboro, and which was discontinued a few years ago. The proceeds of this event are targeted for a scholarship in her name, tentatively named the Ruth Allen Citizenship Award.
The race director is Charlie Fisher who, in his own right, is a runner of some distinction. The run will begin at 9:00 a.m, and will go on for four miles, beginning at the Trail Head near the Depot on Route 315, continuing down Rt. 315 until Burnham Road, and ending on the picturesque Marshall Towpath (former rail bed).
T-shirts will be offered to the first 100 participants, and there will be a raffle featuring prizes to runners and walkers alike, as well as trophies presented to the overall male and female run finisher and medals to the top runners in each category: under 13; 14-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+. The oldest and youngest walkers will receive prizes. Everyone receives a finisher’s award.
